A small courtroom and lobby addition to an existing Juvenile Hall Facility in Napa County, the design of this project aimed to create a courtroom atmosphere that was not intimidating to young people, yet retained the authority of the judicial setting. The courtroom hears cases for families as well as juvenile offenders. The Judges Bench was placed at floor level, not raised as is typical of adult courts. The paneling was constructed of warmly colored red Finland plywood. The bench and bar were designed to be demountable as the room would also be used for other group events on site. Durability and economy of materials were of great concern for this project with a limited budget.
